The Royal Theater

The challenge for this planning project was to create a place that would inspire a community and restore the pride that once existed in this community. A tall order for a community that has experience a horrific lack of investment and catastrophic lost of almost all of it’s institutions. There has been little to instill confidence in the survival of this once vibrant world renown community famous for jazz and entertainment. The Royal Theater is still known around the world for the world class talent that preformed on it’s stage. While we are still in the funding stage, the idea was to create a placeholder for the facility that is to come.

We selected a glass box to convey a since of openness to the community. Situated on a prominent corner, it was important to have a space for gathering in front of the building while still engaging on the street. The theater colors represent the team colors for the Ravens and the Orioles connecting the structure to Baltimore. Immediately adjacent to the theater is a restaurant and shops for local vendors. Parking is to the rear with a direct connection to the theater.

As things progress, the design will also progress and evolve. We will work with the developer and the community as things progress.

This is how we work with clients through out the design and construction process.
